Situated 2 kilometres to the East of Aghia Pelagia, at a distance of 17 kilometres far from Heraklion at the Northwest, some 2 kilometres off the National Road to Rethymno, Lygaria is a sandy beach within a small cove, well protected from the winds.
It is a fairly well organised beach, with tourist facilities, but less crowded than the nearby Aghia Pelaghia; however this vicinity allows the visitor to combine swimming in a quiet beach with the wide range of alternatives for accommodation, food and drink and amusement available in Aghia Pelaghia.
Access from Heraklion is very easy: public bus services are very frequent, taxi is a good and more comfortable alternative and you can always use rented or private car. Following the old road you will get to the beach after a 24 kilometres drive from Heraklion
