Hiona beach is situated in the Locality of Elounda and the Municipality of Agios Nikolaos. Responsibility for this beach falls to K.EP.AN.EL. (The Local Organization for the Development of Elounda). This beach is located within the village planning area of Elounda, approximately 400m. east of the central square of Elounda. Access to the beach is possible by any form of transport or by foot and there are the appropriate ramps for people with special needs. The beach is 150m. long and 30m. wide and is covered with coarse sand. Along the length of the beach are a variety of trees and greenery. At the eastern end of the beach there is an appropriately adapted area offering water sports. Along the road leading to the beach are apartments for rent, hotels, restaurants, cafes and snack bars. At the north side of the beach there are the old salt pans Known as “Alykes” with a vulnerable natural environment. At a distance of approximately 100m. there is a children’s play area. Situated approximately 300m. east of the beach is the Ancient City of Olous.
