Ilia is a picturesque fishing village, within a distance of approximately 8 kilometers from Edipsos, on the foot of the mount Telethrio. Until 20 years ago there was no access by car in the spot but if someone wanted to visit the place could get there by boat. This fact contributed a lot to the village maintaining its islander character, as well as its customs and traditions. In antique years, there was an oracle on Telethrio, dedicated to Ilios Apollo where worshiping rituals used to take place. The village was named after this ancient oracle. For many years, it was believed that whatever had remained of the oracle was buried under the nunnery of Agios Georgios. However, a few years ago the ruins were discovered in the surrounding area of Ilia.

The people of the village are mostly fishermen or occupied in agriculture. In the recent years though, there was a growing demand for tourist facilities in the peaceful and hospitable Ilia from visitors of the area, thus some of them entered the tourist business. Now there are some rooms to let and studios capable of offering their hospitality to the visitors as well as a few taverns specializing particularly in fresh fish, being cooked from people of great skills in the kitchen.

Like the neighbouring settlement of Edipsos and Gialtra, there are some hot healing springs in Ilia, flowing at the level of the sea. The water of those springs has a temperature of 40^ο C and you will be able to recognize them by the red colour of the ground. In the area, there is also the nunnery of Agios Georgios, offering some magnificent wall-paintings.
